Our Mission

At Audition Reviews, we're giving performers a voice. Our anonymous review platform collects data about audition experiences with an aim to increase transparency and transform industry standards. By sharing both positive and negative experiences, you can help fellow performers know what to expect and encourage better practices.

Who We Are

Audition Reviews was created by an international collective of opera industry professionals and supporters who understand the challenges of the audition circuit. We share a genuine commitment to improving the audition landscape for everyone.

How It Works

1

Complete our anonymous questionnaire about your recent audition experiences

2

We compile the data, while ensuring complete confidentiality

3

Results are shared via a moderated results table and updated regularly (disclaimer applies)

4

With continued growth, we'll build an interactive website

Why Your Participation Matters

Reviews are needed to strengthen our collective voice. Some audition processes have become more about profit than discovering talent, with basic courtesies often overlooked. By highlighting both exemplary practices and areas for improvement, we can work together to create audition environments that better serve everyone in the opera community.

Privacy Commitment

Your privacy and security is our top priority.

Anonymity Measures

  • We never collect your name, email, or contact information
  • We review submissions to eliminate any identifying information about you or others (e.g. strip out role-specific comments that might reveal who you are)

Safe Data Sharing

  • Certain fields (audition year, audition type, and individual comments) won't appear in the public spreadsheet
  • Our future interactive site will only present data in a summarized form. Your comments will be displayed under specific houses or agents but will not be linked to data from individual reviews.

Our Vision

By creating transparency through anonymous reviews, we're working toward a future where singers can speak openly about their experiences without fear of repercussion. The fact that anonymity is currently necessary speaks volumes about existing power structures in the performing arts. With your help, we can gradually shift this dynamic toward a more equitable industry.

As the dataset grows, we plan to work with trusted partners across the sector, including research, industry, and safeguarding organisations - to develop evidence-informed reports, guidance, and best-practice resources that support fairer audition standards.

If you’re interested in collaborating or exploring how this work could be developed further, we welcome you to get in touch.

Feedback

We're still in our pilot phase and value your input on how to refine our questionnaire and make the platform more useful.
